P. Meringolo (2012). Juvenile Justice System in Italy: Researches and Interventions. UNIVERSITAS PSYCHOLOGICA, vol. 11(4), pp. 1081-1092, ISSN:1657-9267 


This paper talks about the juvenile justice system in Italy. The author describes the interventions with minors, boys and girls aged from 14 until 18 years, who have committed offenses of the civil or penal code, by the New Code of Criminal Procedure for Minors (1988). The new Procedures have had some positive psychological aspects, aimed to avoid detention, thanks to alternative measures and strategies for inclusion. Nonetheless there are more negative psychological issues, because alternative punishments are not often applied to minors that lack social networks, particularly to foreign ones. Three examples of participatory researches will be shown, promoted by the Municipality of Florence, Department of Psychology and Third Sector Associations, aimed to promote psychological and social inclusion of minors, particularly those coming from abroad, with the commitment of active citizenship organizations, with an evaluation of their strengths and weaknesses.

Attraverso due studi sperimentali (N=251; N=124) sono stati esaminati gli effetti dello status generazionale e delle dimensioni sottostanti le strategie di acculturazione degli immigrati (concettualizzate in termini di Contatto interculturale o Adozione della cultura ospitante) sugli atteggiamenti dei membri accoglienti e sulla percezione che questi hanno dell'adattamento degli immigrati nella nuova comunità. I risultati hanno mostrato che il desiderio degli immigrati di avere contatti con i membri ospitanti e adottarne la cultura influenzano positivamente gli atteggiamenti del gruppo accogliente, riducendo la percezione di minaccia. Inoltre, sia il desiderio di contatto e di adozione della cultura ospitante manifestato dagli immigrati, sia il loro status generazionale, possono influenzare la percezione da parte dei membri ospitanti dell'adattamento socioculturale degli immigrati stessi. La ricerca mostra le notevoli somiglianze esistenti tra le concettualizzazioni delle strategie di acculturazione degli immigrati in termini di Contatto interculturale o Adozione della cultura ospitante.

This article asks to what extent trade union culture among teaching staff reveals common elements both among teachers and within national contexts. Many elements – the development of school systems, cultural, religious and political distinctions, the differences between teachers' professional backgrounds, and their views of themselves as professionals or as officials – make it awkward to adopt a common reading of their trade union identities and activities. For this reason, national trajectories remain solidly in place. Following the Second World War, however, mass school attendance, the rise in educational levels and the social opening-up of school systems did profoundly alter the organization and culture of teaching activity. Elements of convergence then became apparent amidst the differences between the specific corporate traditions bringing the previously association-based system closer to general trade unionism: the federal structure and potential membership of a confederation; reliance on collective bargaining and negotiations; strikes; concertation and the use of bilateral instruments to manage and reform school establishments.

The work presents, in its history, a dual capacity, punitive related to exploitation, liberating as an expression of autonomy and the possibility of redemption. This duality (between job and work) constructs and deconstructs identity and meaning for the individual and the collective. Work as a cultural landscape of human fact is historically divided. As such the places of work are not only the expression of cooperation, but also conflict. From this point of view, the individual formation and the construction of the personality at work are one of the most fascinating elements but also the most problematic of the relationship between the person and his job.
